I recently downloaded Minecraft on the xbox 360. Minecraft is a sandbox game where you can mine and collect block and move them around the world, building structures and basically doing whatever you want.

Minecraft – just one more block…

So far I’ve really enjoyed it and I’ve found minecraft to be incredibly engaging and addictive.

I think that’s because of two reasons. The first reason is that because it’s a sandbox game with no real goals you have to set your own. That means that whatever you are doing is exactly what you want to do. Want to build the tallest tower? Go ahead! Want to dig the deepest hole? No problem! It’s entirely up to you! There are no tiresome tasks or missions between where you are now and where you want to be. The second reason is because minecraft is very good at giving you feedback. You can see your progress and get a steady stream of rewards as you work towards your goal.

This combination is what makes minecraft so addictive. You’re going somewhere you want to go and you can see your steady progress as you go there.

If this sort of creating game appeals to you and you have a lot of time on your hands, or a lot of willpower I recommend giving Minecraft a look.
