Today we went to Sewerby Hall.

Sewerby Dog

Statue of a dog at Sewerby Hall (don't worry, he's not part of the zoo)

The historic hall and gardens are lovely, but the highlight was the little zoo where they have a variety of animals, including some really comical penguins who seemed very happy to entertain the crowds of children that gathered around the penguin enclosure.

Penguin at Sewerby Hall Zoo

This penguin was sun bathing close to the edge of the enclosure. He yawned, showing of an amazing barbed tongue that I assume is very useful for catching fish. Then he shuffled a bit, and did a poo right where he laid.

I thought to myself that it must take a certain amount of freedom to do that, although I can’t say I’m totally jealous.
